Welcome to NHS Ayrshire and Arran
staff benefits portal
The portal is designed to provide financial wellbeing support by providing affordable brand new fully maintained and insured low carbon or Electric cars.
How the programme works
The NHS Ayrshire and Arran have contractually agreed special pricing for low carbon and electric cars. Further savings will be made through salary sacrifice.
What is Salary Sacrifice
A salary sacrifice arrangement is where you agree to reduce part of your monthly salary, in return for a non-cash benefit.
Benefits to employees
The benefit received in sacrifice and the reduction in salary will cancel each other out. Staff will financially benefit from paying less in NI contributions and tax. The current NI rate is 8% and the main tax bands in Scotland are 21% & 42%, thus creating a considerable saving to staff.
Will this affect other benefits and my pension
NHS Ayrshire and Arran will not approve any salary sacrifice payment that takes an employee below the Lower Earnings Limit, therefore not affecting any benefits you receive.
The amount you pay for the vehicle is deducted from your gross salary prior to pension contributions, this will mean your percentage pension contribution is now calculated against the lesser value, meaning you are paying slightly less into your pension pot. Staff who joined the pension scheme before 2012 and who have part of their pension based on final salary need to be aware that their final salary may be reduced by a salary sacrifice scheme. We recommended staff seeking independent financial advice on how this might impact their pension.
